A New Look for the New Year

Shaina · December 31, 2013 · 25 Comments

Wishing you a Happy New Year and unveiling the new look for Food for My Family.
A New Look for a New Year: FoodforMyFamily.com Redesign
This past week was one of purging. Dressers were pulled from the walls, swept behind, pushed back. The dusty area under the bed was cleaned until it sparkled. The topmost shelves were emptied and then carefully collated with an assortment of old and new. Space was made to accommodate new books and clothes unwrapped at Christmas. New LEGO sets were lovingly displayed on shelves, and art kits were caressed and set out as activities for the week-long break.

Now that the kids’ rooms are done, I wish someone would come and do mine for me.

Instead, I’ve been reorganizing a different type of space. This one.

Out with the old, in with the new.

I’m a bit sentimental about the old design, one that I’ve used since 2009. Still, it was time to update my theme, and with a theme update came a few design changes. You’ll notice it’s a bit brighter around these parts, and I hope you like the new look. It’s very similar to the old counterpart, and things should function in the same manner. There will continue to be a set of featured posts in the slider at the top, and then posts will be chronological just underneath that. I’ll be making a few extra changes to the sidebar to make things easier to find, and there are some other small changes we’re working on that might take a bit longer to implement. Still, new and shiny things!

THE OLD:

THE NEW:

THE RECIPE CARDS:
I’ve had recipe cards for years, but these are a bit more streamlined and styled to match the site. You can save the recipes to your Ziplist account, or you can print them off just like you could before.

I’m still tightening up some of the loose ends, making changes, and converting the recipes over to the new format. It’ll take me a few days until everything is finished, but I hope you like the new look and added functionality. Thank you so much for your patience and continued support, and I am looking forward to another year of recipes, cooking tips, family stories, and more.

I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and a very merry New Year!

Your site looks fresh and clean and awesome, Shaina! We put away all the Christmas decorations yesterday and then spent the remainder of the day purging. My plan was to get a whole lot further than we did, but it’s a good start. It feels awesome to tidy up for a fresh new year. Happy 2014 to you and your fam! xo
