Rosemary Mint Shave Cream

Shaina · November 13, 2012 · 7 Comments

1/3 cup shea butter
1/3 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup jojoba or sweet almond oil
10 drops rosemary essential oil
3-5 drops peppermint essential oil

In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the shea butter and coconut oil, stirring until just melted. Remove from the heat and transfer to a heat-safe bowl. Add in the jojoba oil and the essential oils. Stir to mix.

Place the bowl in the refrigerator and chill until solid. Remove from the refrigerator and whip using a hand beater or a stand mixer until light and fluffy. Spoon into a jar. Lid and keep in a cool, dry place.

Makes 8 ounces.

I’ve made this twice now and It works great! Dad and the fiancé love it!
I was just wondering if it supposed to become solid again after making it? Your cream seems a lot more like a cream texture in the photos but mine was more like a butter.

Hi, Vanessa. My cream stays pretty soft, but if it is cold, it can definitely get a bit more stiff. In the summer it is softer because my house is warmer. Because these products change depending on air temperature, this is pretty normal. If you want a softer product for cold weather months, you could add an extra teaspoon or two of your carrier oil to the mix.

I hope this helps, and I’m glad you’re enjoying the shaving cream!

What can I sub for coconut oil? My mom is severely allergic and I cannot use it at all.

I would do a ratio of shea butter to oil, leaving the coconut oil out altogether. I would start by whipping the shea butter until creamy and then slowly pouring in the oil until the desired consistency is reached. Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions!

Is it ok to use EVCO for the coconut oil? I bought a jar a few months ago and have been looking for different ways to use it. Thanks!

What kind of Shea Butter are you using and where can I find it. If I can find it in a store vs online that would be best.
