The Monday Menu: August 24, 2009

We visited the farmer’s market today. I have a special place in my heart for the farmer’s market. I could wander and people watch for hours if I was allowed to. As it is, I walk quickly and deliberately to my favorite vendors, stopping to browse at very few because Ole is sitting in the car with a sleeping Kidney Bean and a restless Kumquat and I am holding hands with Kola Nut, who is obsessed with finding the “balloon man” to make him a balloon sword. I did, however, manage to get what I was looking for and make it back to the car in record time despite the crowd, but not without forgetting to pass and purchase a bag of kettle corn, much to Kiwi’s disappointment.

I also managed to make it to Trader Joe’s for pine nuts and olive oil to turn my herb pots into pesto. I’m going to harvest a bunch and care for them to see if I can’t one more round out of them before it turns cold. It’ll be tough here in the cold north, but I think I can pull it off. Either way, we ate the last of our pesto from last year about 3 weeks ago, and I’ve been sad ever since knowing that I couldn’t pull out a chunk of the green stuff to toss into pasta, spread on bread or season green beans with.

Monday – English muffin egg and pancetta sandwiches, honeydew

Tuesday – Brick chicken (similar to this one), spring mix salads, browned butter angel hair

Wednesday – Baked haddock with a peppered cream sauce, Indian zucchini rice and carrot sticks

Thursday – Mojito chicken sandwiches, blue corn chips and salsa, guacamole

Friday – Pesto! (excited much?) with garlic pasta and spring mix salads, pesto cheese bread

Recipes to look for here at Food for My Family this week: Last week we shared grilled corn instead of chicken piccata (because I could not find the point-and-shoot that had the pictures on it), so I’ll be posting that recipe Monday, and then I have last week’s shrimp and lemon linguini in white whine cream sauce, and I’ve got a banana cake in the works. I like food.

Bored this Monday? Perhaps the Japanese equivalent to Old Navy, UNIQLO, can cure your case of The Mondays.

Watch the 30-second dance groove on the hour, see the lights dim in the evening and watch them sleep when it’s lights out here. You can thank me later, or you can thank Niki and Jeremy, since he’s the one who first discovered it while glancing over a coworker’s shoulder.

Never miss a recipe! Have them delivered right to your RSS feed or to your inbox as an email!

Uniqlock is totallly a cure-all for the inevitable case of The Mondays. I still haven’t even seen the dimmed lights at night, something to look forward to.
Wish I had basil to spare for a stockpile of winter pesto. Next spring I will plant more basil. All basil. Remind me to do that. Your Friday menu has me salivating.
